What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name Service. It allows us to use names for the machines instead of IP Addresses. For example, if the machine IP Address is 123.123.123.123 we can use DNS to map some name, let's say www.mydomain.com to that IP Address, so when you need to access that machine you just need to type human readable name instead of set of numbers.
Types of DNS Records MX, A, CNAME
- MX Records
"MX" Records define where mail for your domain should be delivered. To use Simplicato Email Services you will need to change your MX Record.
You will receive specific instructions after placing your order.
- A Records
"A" Records are the actual mapping of hostnames to IP Addresses. To use
Simplicato Email Services you will not be required to change any "A" Records.
- CNAME Records
"CNAME" Records map one hostname to another hostname. You will be required to add two CNAME Records to use
Simplicato Email Services.
SPF Records
SPF (Sender Policy Framework) was developed to prevent forging of sender's email address by Spammers. Implementing SPF for your Domain
involves setting special record in your Domain's DNS. If you use
Simplicato Email Services, you should set the SPF Record as follows:
yourdomain.com IN TXT "v=spf1 include:simplicato.com ~all"
